Good eBay art auction titles

A good auction title can make all the difference, in terms of how popular your auctions are and how high the winning bids are. This article was written late in 2004; some information may have changed since then.

Andale.com helps you see what’s selling at eBay, and analyze eBay sales in terms of successful auction titles, what price to start things at, whether it’s worth investing in Gallery or Bold, and so on.

I recommend their “How to Sell” feature.

If you’d used that feature in June of 2004, you would have seen that auctions using the word “collage” had only a 14% success rate (meaning that they actually sold in the auction), whereas using the phrase “mixed media collage” more than doubled your odds of selling… to 37%.

That’s the good news about collages. The bad news is, the average collage sold for under $15 in May 2004.

Now, before you start pulling out your hair and considering a career as an accountant or a skydiver, keep in mind that Andale doesn’t judge the quality of the art. It could be that there were a bazillion perfectly awful collages in eBay at that time, and they skewed the numbers.

That said, if you’re selling collages, I’d recommend adding the words “mixed media” to your auction title, IF that’s what Andale.com still recommends. (It’s been a fairly consistent recommendation over many months.)

And, EBSQ in the auction title still increases your selling price by at least 10%. If you sell art at eBay often, that pays for your (recommended) EBSQ membership in a hurry.

These are just a few tips, but they can be very important when you want to do your best at eBay auctions.
