First, some updates… (You can skip this and see my most popular articles beneath my “Enthusiasm…” illustration, below.)
I’m writing this from a winter rental near Ogunquit, Maine (USA).
Note: In New England, a “winter rental” is a home, hotel suite, cabin, or motel room that’s rented – by the week or by the month – at a far lower rate than in the summer months. Winter rentals are usually available from early September through mid-May.
It’s lovely here! We’ve winter’d here before, and things seemed to open up for us nicely during that time. We’re seeing similar opportunities again, and that’s a good thing.
A bit of history: At the end of June 2025, we left Florida. We thought it would be the first of two steps as we decide exactly where to put down roots.
For awhile, it was a coin-flip, deciding between Utah and the northeast. Both had appeal and offered opportunities.
Finally, we chose New England, where my husband had a job offer in his field: the print industry.
Unfortunately, when we arrived, the company had lost some contracts and had an abrupt management change. Not only did the have to rescind the job offer, they had layoffs affecting about 75% of their workers.
That was disappointing, but the printing field is radically shrinking. Digital media has replaced a lot of print, many tech jobs are being replaced by AI, and even some traditional printed items – including some tickets, business cards, catalogues, paper cheques, etc. – are fast becoming dinosaurs.
However, we’re staying in this area for now, as my husband continues his job search, and – as time permits – we tour coastal Maine and vicinity. (Of course, I’m taking photos!)

I grew up in Belmont, Massachusetts – just outside Boston – and have lived in several states from Maine to Texas, and from Illinois to California… and more. So, moving isn’t entirely uncomfortable for me. (Tiresome at times, but not awful.)
And I’ll admit that coastal Maine keeps calling us, with its white-sand beaches, salt air, wonderful hiking trails, and gorgeous fall foliage.
Meanwhile…
After a semi-hiatus covering several years, I’m returning to art, mostly mixed-media.
So, I’m reorganizing and updating this site – over 300 articles – so it’s more current, loads faster, and is easier to navigate.
Some article collections will become books, with LOTS of illustrations.
Some will remain here, mostly focusing on art journaling and creative living.
