Disney Castle Sketch – Mmarte Paints Review

Mmarte Watercolor Paints - An artist's review

To accurately review Mmarte watercolors, I did a quick sketch (using a fine-point Sharpie pen) and then painted over it using the paints and brushes in the watercolor set.

(I gave the set a five-star review, also posted below. Except that the set doesn’t include enough shades of purple, these are fun watercolor supplies.)

Here’s the result. (Keep in mind that I did this hastily.)

Watercolor sketch of Disney World castle

What I like best is how cheerful and informal this is. Rushing through this, I couldn’t let perfectionism get in my way.

After all, I was just testing the paints; I didn’t plan to keep this piece.

Now, this watercolor sketch is going up on my wall to brighten my day, and remind me of happy visits to Disney World… past and future!

Here’s my review from the Amazon site

This is a very attractive watercolor kit including more than just tubes of paint.

Inside the box, you’ll also find a nice palette that offers a lot of well-defined pigment and mixing areas, seals tightly to keep paints moist, and is easy to clean, later.

There’s also a pad of paper to paint on (good), a color wheel and blending chart (good), a cup with a sealable lid for water (great idea), and a wide assortment of brushes (very good).

In other words, this kit includes everything you’ll need to start painting.

I feel as if the color range is excellent, except for a bit of weakness if you like to paint with shades of purple. Oh, that’s easy enough to blend, but a light/blue-ish purple would have been nice.

On the other hand, the blues, reds (and a great, soft pink), and yellows are ideal shades and mix well as needed.

The pigment is thick and rich. Not quite as thick and rich as acrylic paints, but a little will go a very long way if – like me – you’re working with washes.

The brushes are very good, with medium-length handles (not too long, not too short) and well-balanced in your hand. They also clean up easily and dry fairly fast.

Tip: The paint tubes arrive with a seal over the end, to prevent them from drying out in shipment. To break the seal, remove the cap, turn it over, and then use the pointy insert to break the seal. (In some cases, I had to tap it firmly, cap down, on a table.)

If you’re accustomed to flat, tray-style watercolors, these tubes may deliver more pigment than you had in mind. (In my opinion, it’s worth learning to use these kinds of watercolors. You’ll get better paints that will last a very long time, without needing to buy more of your favorite colors.)

But for rich, highly pigmented watercolors that deliver color with depth and will last a long time, this is an excellent value.
